OVERVIEW

The Colgate West Indies Study Group, located at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad, gives students an enriched experience of the Caribbean, through an opportunity to study the history, culture, literature, sociology, politics, and economics of the region. Students acquire not only academic knowledge in Caribbean Studies but also first-hand experience throught daily living in a dynamic Caribbean society and constant interaction with Caribbean students.

This study group is unusual in that it is open to students from all the disciplines and emphasizes the interdisciplinary study of a region that is complex, culturally diverse, English-speaking, and close to the United States. The program is located in the nation of Trinidad and Tobago, a multicultural society. Faculty and students at the University of the West Indies come from all over the English-speaking Caribbean. Study group participants can choose from a wide range of courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Many of the courses focus on the Caribbean. The classroom experience is enhanced by several field trips and by living and studying with Caribbean students in a prestigious multi-national university.

Colgate students will find that this study group offers a unique educational experience, combining excellent courses with a rich cultural environment.
