Based at Nanjing University, the China Study Group
is designed to give Colgate students in general, and International Relations/
Asian Studies concentrators in particular, the opportunity to acquire a
thorough knowledge of modern China and to develop proficiency in the Chinese
language. By living and travelling in China for a semester, students obtain
a firsthand experience with the political, economic and social changes
brought forth by the late Deng Xiaoping's reform since 1978, and gain a
deeper sense of China's concerns in foreign relations. One year of Chinese
language study, or the equivalent, and CORE 165 are prerequisites.
Students live in the the University dormitory.
