Department Facilities
Generous university and
foundation support has provided state-of-the-art equipment and separate
laboratories devoted to teaching and research.
A wide variety of modern
laboratory instrumentation is available to support the Biology
Department.
Facilities in Olin Hall include
faculty offices and research, teaching, and computing labs.
Each member of the faculty of
the Biology Department has a laboratory in which they conduct research and
guide student research projects.
Also
available are ten walk-in environmental chambers, a greenhouse, a cold room, dark rooms,
and a radioactivity lab. All laboratories are wired for network connections and
most contain dedicated computing equipment. Additionally, 24 laptop computers are devoted to use in student
laboratories and field exercises.
Field
Field work takes place at nearby sites including the
university’s 140-acre Bewkes Center Nature
Preserve, the Rogers
Conservation Center, and local beaver colonies.
