Study Abroad

The Department presently offers two opportunities for students to continue their study of Classics abroad: the Venice Study Group, a semester-long, off-study program, and the Rome “Maymester,” a three-week program with intensive study in Rome and Pompeii. (The prerequisite for the latter is the completion of Latin 102 or higher.) Each of these programs allows our students an opportunity to encounter the material culture of the ancient Roman world face-to-face. We seek to maintain the same intimate atmosphere that characterizes our language classes, while at the same time giving our students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of, say, the Roman Forum or the houses of Pompeii. In the near future, the department hopes to introduce another “Maymester” to Athens.
