Shao Wei was born and grew up in a small mountainous city Wanxian--located at the legendary east Sichuan province by the Yangtze River. She came to America in 1996 and got her M.A. from New York University, majoring in Creative Writing.
Shao Wei's poems and other writings are published in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Germany. She has a poetry collection (limited edition in Chinese) called Nine Songs. Females published in 1993 in Hong Kong and a nonfiction (in Chinese) called Culture Bird: Looking for Myself in New York, published in 2000 in Beijing.
Currently she lives in New York, teaching and writing bilingually. She is the recipient of the 1999 Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Award, 2001 New York Foundation for Arts Fellowship and Fredrica Clifton Fellowship at Squaw Valley Community of Writers.
