Bill Hakes: Just over 4 years ago our little girl was born and all the things we used to do, aren't the same anymore. I am working for Conoco in the UK doing exploration and appraisal work in the northern part of the North Sea looking for Tertiary, heavy oil accumulations. I am heavily into Windows in the office and Macs at home. We also have the dreaded UNIX boxes which are supposed to solve all our problems only the operating system seems to have been written by several thousand graduate students, and it was. Conoco used to be in London (in the heart of the West End, a block from Selfridges) with a good commute from Wimbledon. Then we closed the London exploration office and moved up north about a year ago. It was been a change. We just had the hottest day ever (well since records began in the late 1600's). It was 84 deg. F! Now that's hot and that's Global Warming. (submitted '96)

John W. Hoffman: Still teaching 7th grade Earth Science and 8th grade physical science at the Indian Mountain School. Had a great trip to Hawaii in March of 1995 and finally (after teaching about it for 25 years) saw Kilauea first hand. Especially enjoyed Desastation Trail, the Kilauea Iki trail and the lava flows covering the road at the end of the chain of Craters Road. Say hello to Bob Linsley. (submitted '96)
