Geology Department
ALUMNI NEWS NOTES

Class of 1977

Ben T. Harris: I've been working in Bucharest, Romania since October 1992 as Exploration Manager for Amoco Romania Petroleum Company, a part of Amoco Corporation. It's been an exciting time. I'll be finishing my assignment in october, 1995, and heading back to Houston, Texas. If anyone's interested in what's happening in Romania, give me a call. All the best to Geology students, Alumni & Staff! (submitted '96)

Richard Lee: Still running geophysical surveys at Quantum Geophysics. Past pretty close to the 'gate recently on the way to a job site in Rochester. Majority of the work, lately, has been at military bases: Rock island Arsenal (IL), West Point Military Academy, Stewart AFT (NY), Sewart AFB (TN), Wurtsmith AFB (MN), Chennault AFB (LA), and Rockenbacker Air National Guard Base (OH). I guess you can call us the "radiologist" of the earth sciences - spanning and scanning the glove, or in my case, the eastern 48 states. Recent accomplishments: acquired a Pennsylvania Geologists Registration (to go along with California Registered Geophysicists license) and have been reviewing papers for the Groundwater Publishing Company (papers on groundwater exploration using geophysical techniques). In the near future, perhaps a teaching appointment at Drexel University. They've expressed an interest in a field oriented, hands-on geophysical course through the civil engineering/geotechnical department (Drexel has no formal geology department though there is some hybriding with the University of Penn's department). It would be a much welcome change to working on hazardous material sites. (submitted '96)

Deborah Levine: It took almost 50 years, but I'm now engaged to be married. Bryan Luftglass (also Geology '77) proposed just after the fireworks on July 4th--and I accepted. Fortunately, he comes "with child" (see B.L.'s note for additional details). Jobwise, I currently work in business development for a soil remediation firm, specializing in the cleanup of large sites. Hi Jay!

Bryan Luftglass: I am happy to announce that Deborah Levine (also class of 1977, Geology) and I were engaged to be married on July 4th, 2003. We reconnected for the first time since graduation in 2001 "on business" and have dated since July 4th of that year. Deb and I have been living together with my daughter, Kim, for the past year. My career is also in transition. I have been a business consultant for the past 10 years, including in remediation technology development, air pollution control businesses, chemicals and industrial equipment, and have never worked for a company larger than 100 people. However, I will shortly begin working for a $5B global company in "New Opportunity and Market Development" (not the Chief-ly type of Opportunities, however). As I understand it, I will be exploring and developing new business positions in areas like nanotechnology, hydrogen fuel, superconductors and novel environmental technologies. Somehow, I expect the background in geology will help (no kidding!).
