James Birkelund: Started MS in natural resources and the environment at the University of Michigan. Finished working at Dames & Moore (environmental consulting) in Washington, DC. (submitted '96)
Doug Henderson: I am wrapping up my Master's degree at the Univ. of Texas at Austin this semester, studying the isotope geochemistry of granites from South Africa. I visited there for sample collection last summer and got to see a plethora of interesting geology in the process. In addition, I have learned gem cutting during my stay here. Other than that, I've been enjoying life in Austin and have begun my search for a (neat) job in the real world. Best wishes to everyone there! (submitted '96)
Patrick Koepele: After graduating, I worked for the USGS in Jackson, Miss. for four months, then headed to South America with Patrick Herron. We spent nine months travelling in the southern latitudes by bicycle (and we saw some incredible geology). After I returned last August, I bumped around the U.S. spending time in Michigan, South Dakota, Colorado, and finally this past summer leading 16 teenagers on a bike trip up the coast of Maine. I'm headed off the California September 1995 to begin a master's program at UC Davis. (submitted '96)
Laura Moore: I am beginning my third year as a graduate student in the earth sciences department at the University of California, Santa Cruz. My work studying coastal processes and beach sediment transport, often forces me to spend a great deal of time on the sunny beaches of central California (can't say I mind!). I have also managed to sneak in a few environmental studies classes and I'm hoping, this fall, to enroll in a documentary film class. Photography and work for the UCSC Graduate Student Association are my most recent non-academic activities and in my spare time (is there such a thing in grad school???), I've been enjoying the gym, friends and the many microbreweries of Santa Cruz! I look forward to catching up with any Colgate folks who may be at GSA in New Orleans or at AGU in San Francisco. Cheers! (submitted '96)
