ALUMNI NEWS NOTES
Class of 1944
Ernest Horton:
Dr. Woodruff and Dr. Trainer suggested I go on to get a Masters in micropaleontology.
It really paid off. Hired with a Masters from Rutgers under Dr. Steve Fox I put in 28
years with Amerada-Hess doing geology and paleo. Took early retirement and came to
San Antonio with Tesoro Petroleum as Chief Geologist. At 65 I retired from Tesoro
and started my own company. I am now 81 years old and still do will samples all over
South Texas. I find I'm the only micropaleontologist west of Houston. As long as
one can see through a microscope you are needed quite often. some of your geology
majors may want to pursue a similar career. (submitted 6/03)
