ALUMNI NEWS NOTES
Class of 1978

Marc Arbeeny: thanks to the skills learned with "Chief", Dr. Selleck, Dr. April, and Dr. McClennen; understanding the charts and trends of the financial markets proved easy. I have since left that world and I now live in the wonderful rugged environment of Durango CO. Thanks to the 'rocks dept/Colgate '78' I can truly enjoy and undertstand this place!! (submitted 6/03)

Andrew Bebry: Should have gone into geology 100% instead of 1/2 geo and 1/2 marine science. Marine science lasted about 3 yrs. Grant and soft money are NOT to be relied upon of course. Now into ultrasound. Also should have taken Selleck's crystalline structure course. Started faceting gemstones; my first is an 8 sided brillant 'quartz'. Unable to include images with this email. Anyone else faceting? (submitted July 2010)

David Lincoln: President & CEO of a small, independent oil and gas company. Buying producing properties and exploring for oil and gas in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Alabama. Properties include significant contbed methane production in Alabama and Pennsylvania. (submitted '96)

Randall C. Mills: Working for SCS Engineers in Cincinnati, Ohio. For the most part, I am working on hydrogeologic investigations to permit the expansions of municipal solid waste landfills. I am an officer in my local volunteer fire department. (submitted '96)

Linda Voltmann Swanson: Three years ago I quit teaching Geology as an adjunct professor after 15 years at Jamestown Community College. I have been co-writing a "Roadside Guide to Chautauqua County (NY)" with a colleague, a retired Biology professor. We are self publishing the first volume this summer. We ended up including a lot of local history, which has been educational but required quite a bit of research. Obviously we are targeting a regional market, so it don't look for it on any national best seller lists!

On other news, our older child, Christine, just completed her freshman year at Colgate and loved it. She is thinking of minoring in Physics and majoring in computer science, but who knows what she will finally decide upon. As much as I try, I can't seem to get her near the Geology Department! We also have a son, Peter, who will be a junior in High School and is beginning his college search. (submitted 6/03)
