Karen Harpp Receives NSF-RUI Grant
In November of 2004, Associate Professor Karen Harpp was awarded
a $133,536 RUI grant from the National Science Foundation for collaborative research on
"The Time Scales of Magmatic Differentiation and Their Relationship to Eruptive Style."
The focus of this study is to gain insight into mechanisms and timescales of magma differentiation
through microanalysis of zoned phenocrysts within rocks from historical eruptions of the Hekla
volcano in southern Iceland.
