Joscelyn Godwin will lead the Study Group to Venice in the Fall of 2001. The focus of the group will be the Italian opera tradition.

What Some Students Say...

"I went to Venice in the fall of 1994. It was that trip which provided the final push towards a music concentration for me. Besides that, I forged lasting friendships on the trip, both with fellow students and Venetians. It was one of the best experiences of my life."

"Venice changed my life! It completely changed my view towards America while broadening my horizons through exposure to such a different culture. We travelled around Europe, saw operas that we had studied in class, met wonderful friends, and lived in perhaps the most beautiful city in the world. I could not have been luckier -- this study group happened to have a music focus during my junior year and I can't think of a better place to study music. However, I think that I honestly learned the most outside the classroom, soaking in the culture..."

"I studied with Professor Jay Swain in Venice. The group, although oriented somewhat towards musicians, gave a broad scope of knowledge, mostly about the Baroque and Renaissance eras in Italian (and European in general) music and art. We were able to attend several Italian operas in small opera houses -- really a singular experience."
