Physics and Astronomy Alumni Statistics in the Last Five Years
Graduation numbers:
In the last five years (’96-’00) we have had 55 majors (physics, astronomy-physics, pre-engineering, astrogeophysics).
There have been 36 physics majors (65.5%), 13 astronomy-physics majors (23.6%), 4 Pre-engineering (7.3%) and 2 Astrogeophysics (3.6%).
Graduate School:
Percentages going to graduate school have remained nearly constant: 50.9% (’96-’00) vs. 51.8% (’91-’95).
In the past five years, 15 physics majors went to any type of graduate study, and 6 (10.9% of all majors –16.7% of physics majors) went on to graduate school in physics.
Similarly, 9 astronomy-physics majors went to graduate school in general, but 6 (46% of astronomy-physics majors, 10.9% of total) went to graduate school in astronomy/physics.
All astrogeophysics majors went on to graduate school and 3 (75%) in pre-engineering went on to further studies.
Jobs:
In the last five years 16 majors (29.1%) went to technical jobs and 9 (16.4%) went to non-technical jobs (business, law).
