Friday, April 13

 

3:00pm:  NASC Science Colloquium will feature Shimon Malin as the guest speaker in 209 Lathrop Hall:  “From the Madcap Brain of a Theoretical Physicist

 

6:00pm:  Welcome Dinner at Poolville Country Store.  This informal gathering of alumni and invited guests will include cocktails (cash bar) and a dinner at a cost of $40 per person.

 

Saturday, April 14

 

9:00am: Festivities begin in 209 Lathrop with a dialogue between Prof. Abner Shimony* and Shimon Malin on The Marriage of Physics and Philosophy.   Talks by alumni will follow throughout the morning. 

 

12:00 - 2:00pm: Lunch break:  you may attend the Saturday brunch at Frank Dining Hall ($6.75 payable at the door), or at the Coop at O’Connor Campus Center, or at various establishments in the village.

 

2:00pm:  Talks continue including an “open mic” period.

 

4:00pm: The Light Side of Physics -“Demonstrations in physics (optics, acoustics, ballistics. . .) and perceptions that are unexpected and surprising.” by Dr. Moshe Rishpon, Director of Clore Garden of Science, Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.

 

6:30pm: Banquet with guest speaker Prof. Abner Shimony* at the Horned Dorset, a world-class five-star establishment in Leonardsville, NY (half-hour drive from Hamilton).  The cost for dinner is $55 (cash bar).

 

*Abner Shimony, Professor of Physics and Philosophy, was recently introduced at an international conference as “Mr. Quantum Mechanics.”  His unique contributions to both  physics and philosophy are due to his deep understanding of both disciplines.  He is also an excellent story teller, the title of his talk is Nostalgic Reminiscences.
