Colgate Physics and Astronomy Welcome to the Physics & Astronomy Department at Colgate University! Left Picture: A single carbon nanotube in a circuit. Atomic force microscope (AFM) image of a 4-micron-long carbon nanotube grown between the contacts to a THz antenna by first-year student Dobromir Kamburov '08. The nanotube is too narrow to be resolved by the AFM; it is only a few nanometers in diameter. Right Picture: Extra-Solar planet transit. Image of star field near the star TrES-1, which has been discovered to have a planet orbiting around it. The insert to the photo shows a graph of the light from TrES-1 when the planet passes in front of the star. The data was taken at Colgate by Brian Walsh '06, as part of his junior research project.
