Professor Balonek is an observational astronomer interested in compact extragalactic objects, active galaxies and supernovae. His studies include measurements at optical and radio wavelengths of the variable emission from quasars and active galactic nuclei. His observational projects have utilized many of the major national radio and optical telescopes, as well as the Colgate “Foggy Bottom” Observatory telescope and CCD electronic camera system.


Research interests: Quasar variability, Asteroids
