Charlie Holbrow
retires after 36 years at Colgate........
After long and distinguished service to Colgate University, Charles Holbrow, C.A. Dana Professor of Physics, is retiring from active teaching at the end of this term. As the newly elected president of the American Association of Physics Teachers, Charlie will be serving the AAPT for the next three years. In honor of Charlie and to reconnect with the Physics and Astronomy Department, we invite you to attend a one-day symposium on Saturday, March 29, 2003. The symposium will be a day of short talks by Charlie’s former students, who have pursued many different careers. There will also be poster presentations by current Colgate students about their research projects. The day will conclude with a banquet in Charlie’s honor. This will be a celebration for Charlie and a reaffirmation of the Colgate community.
Also, on Friday, March 28, Charlie is featured as the guest speaker at our weekly colloquium, sponsored by the Natural Science and Mathematics Department, so if you are planning to arrive in town on Friday, you may want to stop by. There will also be an gathering Friday night for the faculty and invited speakers, which you may also attend if you so desire.
Unfortunately, financial constraints do not allow us to pay for your expenses while in Hamilton. However, we will do all we can to help with everything from housing to baby sitters. Please refer to the program outline for further information.
If you can come, please email the Department Chair, Vic Mansfield ( VMansfield@Colgate.edu) and Administrative Assistant, Diane Janney ( DJanney@Colgate.edu). If you do not have email accessibility, you may call in your intent at 315-228-7723.
