Awards presented this year at the 2004 Convocation Award Ceremony on Tuesday, April 27:
Edwin Foster Kingsbury Prize (Established as an annual award to those students whose performance and promise is judged by the department to be the most outstanding during the year of the award): Alison Andrews, Devin Edwards and Benjamin Reschovsky
Physics and Astronomy Founders Award (Awarded periodically to a senior who has demonstrated four years of outstanding progress and development of his or her understanding of physics or astronomy.): Trevor King and Nels Gilbreth
Physics and Astronomy Alumni Award (Awarded to those students concentrating in physics and astronomy, who, in the opinion of the department, have made the most significant progress in the study of their major subject and the relations of this science to other fields of learning: Matt Pysher
PICNIC 2004 was held on May 5, 2004 at the White Eagle Lodge and Teepee. Largest attendance ever despite the somewhat cloudy wet weather. Lots of good food and fun.
Matt Schutzer '04 has won a Fulbright scholarship to study Biomechanics in Germany next year. Matt is a Physical Science major. Congratulations to Matt!
Anthony Annunziata '05 has won a Barry M. Goldwater scholarship, which is a very prestigious national scholarship for undergraduates in science and engineering. There were 310 scholarships awarded nationally this year. Anthony is a Physics major. Great job, Anthony!

In-house research on a new geometric phase in optics made it to Physical Review Letters (and its cover!). Patrick Crawford '04, Matt Pysher '04, Henry Sztul '01 and PJ Haglin '01 were among the coauthors.
