Left Picture: Interference of Optical Vortices. The false-color image shows the interference of two light beams carrying different phase vortices. The "hand-shaped" pattern is revealing of the optical singularities in each of the beams. The image was taken by Nathan Smiley '05, as part of his senior research project. Right Picture: Extra-Solar planet transit. Image of star field near the star TrES-1, which has has been discovered to have a planet orbiting around it. The insert to the photo shows a graph of the light from TrES-1 when the planet  passes in front of the start The data was taken at Colgate by Brian Walsh '06, as part of his junior research project.
