Optical Physics

Prof. Enrique J. Galvez has been directing a research program to study the manifestations of Geometric Phase in optics. When a system is transported through a path in the space of parameters or in the space of states it acquires a phase that depends on the topology of the path. We have been involved in studying three manifestations of geometric phase in optics:

• Coiled light in Polarization Rotation

• Coiled light in Image Rotation

• Pancharatnam Phase

• Optical Beams in High Order Gaussian Beam Modes

• The Geometric Phase of Beams Carrying Orbital Angular Momentum
