"The Optical Variability of Quasar 1156+295"
Kelli Corrado, Advisor: Dr. Thomas J. Balonek
1156+295 is an optically violent variable (OVV) quasar which has been studied at optical
wavelengths at Colgate University's Foggy Bottom Observatory using the 16-in Cassegrain
Telescope. Images were taken in the R-band filter every clear night. Each night we took
approximately half a dozen images in order to improve the signal to noise ratio. Previously,
Andy Hock had compiled three years of data cllected during 1995-1998 into a light curve to
look for time scales of variability for 1156+295. This light curve was updated with the addition
of data collected during 1998-1999. The light curve was reveals a large burst during the summer
of 1998 and two small bursts during the spring of 1999.
