New developments in the generation of terahertz pulses have allowed scientists to learn more about various materials' responses to electromagnetic radiation of the terahertz region. Different techniques have been developed to measure the strength of these pulses, some reducing noise better than others. It has been found that fast scans reduce low frequency noise better than slow scans due to the manner in which fast scans average a number terahertz pulses to obtain a final signal.
