Antenna detectors can be effectively used in terahertz spectroscopy, but they have limitations. The electromagnetic pulses that are generated for this type of spectroscopy contain frequencies that range from 100 GHz to 5 THz. The antenna detectors cannot detect pulses that have frequencies above 1 THz. Therefore, electro-optic detectors can be used in place of antenna detectors to measure pulses that fall in the 1 THz to 5 THz range. My project involved determining the optimal geometry of several components of the detection system so that a ZnTe crystal could be used as a replacement for the antenna detector.
