Detection of Membrane Phase Coexistence: Using Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer

The diverse lipid composition of membranes drives formation of phases that coexist as microdomains. We used fluorescence resonance energy transfer between lipid-like fluorophores to monitor the phase behavior of two-component model membranes. Thus we identified the phase boundaries of a DLPC and DPPC lipid system.
